Well, it’s really starting to feel like summer around here. It’s hot, hot, hot and humid, humid, humid.
For us, summer no longer has the dramatic entrance it used to have when Rye was in traditional school where he would school, school, school and then be off completely for 2-3 months. As homeschoolers, we school year round. Granted, it’s a lighter schedule at all times. But that’s why we go year round. More days of schooling but less in each day [the best way to go for learning disabled kids, if you ask me]. Anyway, it’s a gentler entrance into the world of summer fun for us but it still feels like summer nonetheless.
So, what to do, what to do? We are still in the planning phases of what to do exactly this summer. So far we have Rye and Don heading to New York for 4 days to visit family and friends. They are going to Coney Island as a part of their trip and Rye is really excited about that. He can’t wait to try the Wonder Wheel (which would be hell on earth for me as I hate ferris wheels but he and Don love them). Rye is also signed up for an overnight camp for a week in the mountains and he is looking forward to that. Other than that, I’m not really sure. Rye has football conditioning over the summer. We have season passes to the amusement park near here so I’m sure we’ll go there quite a bit. And we have a pool at our house and Gam has a pool as well so I’m sure we’ll swim a lot.
As for schooling, we will continue with math every day as I am bound and determined to get through math 7 by the end of the summer (we are still in the review chapters which are driving Rye crazy as he wonders daily why do we have to review? I already know this stuff!). We also have some books we are going to read and he will continue with the writing tutor where he will write about our readings. And, we plan on hitting the museums in town quite a few times. Pottery classes also start up again next week. So, I guess that’s a pretty full schedule. And I’m sure some more stuff will crop up along the way.
I love summer!

Sounds like a great summer!
Sounds like you’ve got lots of fun things planned! I love summer, too–Bug gets out of school next week. I’m with you on the ferris wheel (and amusement parks in general), but Bug loves them– and roller coasters. I promised to take her and a friend to an amusement park over the summer. Not feeling at all like summer here weather-wise yet–cold and pouring rain today!
