Christmas & New Years

Well, I feel like it’s been one hundred years since I last blogged.  As it turns out, we had a really nice Christmas and post Christmas holiday.  Don had the week off between Christmas and New Years and that has been really nice.  We spent Christmas here at home just the three of us and then Christmas day eve we headed to New York for the week to visit with Don’s family and some of our long time friends.   We had a really good time.

Christmas itself was really low key.  We had fun though and the highlight gift of the year was some t-shirts that Don had made for all three of us with our nicknames on them and then pictures that matched.  They were hilarious and completely caught Rye and I by surprise.   Rye’s favorite gift was gift cards that he used to buy basketball shoes with in NYC.   And he still has some money left over so I see another shopping trip in our future.  Don’s favorite gift was an iPad that his mom gave us.  He actually squealed when he opened it (we were not expected it at all) and I’m now not sure we’ll be able to pry that baby from his kung foo grip for many months to come.  It is a pretty cool toy though and we can use it for homeschooling as well.

As for what we did on the trip… we made it through a blizzard, shoveled snow, visited with friends and family, went sledding,  took pictures, took videos, went to the Opera, survived the freaky height of balcony box seats at the Opera, went to FAO Schwartz, walked all around NYC, went to see “Little Fockers”, ate Colombian food that came with great sangria, played video games, read books, ate pizza, ate a million bagels, ate Italian food, ate Juniors cheesecake, ate street hot dogs and street nuts (honey roasted for me and Rye, roasted chestnuts for Don), went to a very crowded mall on Long Island, shopped in NYC and Long Island, discovered that after size 13 in men’s shoes you need to order the shoes online if you want any selection but nonetheless managed to find 2 pairs of shoes for Rye which then took up an entire suitcase coming home.

We had a good time.

It was nice to get away.  And now it’s nice to be home.
