Depth Of Character

Last week  the school staff asked my son what he wanted to work towards as a reward for effectively working his BIP.  They offered many things:  NFL game tickets, NBA game tickets, a fishing rod, etc.

Completely on his own accord and suggestion, he chose to earn time working with the severely impaired students at his school that are in a self contained classroom.  Students in wheelchairs who cannot speak.  Students with feeding tubes. Students with severe brain trauma.  Students who are blind and mute.

The administrator speaking with him was so moved that she was brought to tears by his suggestion.

He is now getting acquainted with these students and their teachers a little bit every week. And he loves it.

Depth of character.

That speaks volumes of his character and of you and your husband as parents. People often don’t realize how sensitive and caring Bipolar children really are.

I agree with you Angela about bipolar kids. They have an amazing capacity for empathy.
