Well, we had a good day here today. Rye is still hyper as can be but he was perky for the most part today.
Thank God.
Given our mediocre success with book work the past few days, I figured it best for everyone’s sanity to keep busy in lieu of book work so we headed an hour into the big city and met Dad for lunch. We had sushi and although Rye was not crazy about it, he loved the action of the restaurant (the place is packed 10 minutes after opening and is really bustling). And the restaurant has a big lunch buffet so he was able to try a lot of different things. To be honest, I was surprised at how many different things he actually tried.
In the end, though, he only really liked the cooked items. That’s ok. At least he tried and was pleasant about it.
After lunch Don headed to work and Rye and I headed to a museum where we toured the exhibits and learned about the history of the cotton industry as well as a general history of Southern life and culture. Included in that, we learned about child labor laws.
As well as Jim Crow laws, segregation and the subsequent Civil Rights Movement.
Rye found it all very interesting as all of the exhibits were hands on and interactive. He was completely freaked out by the KKK hoods and robes they had on display. Those really did him in. And I have to say, they gave me a creepy chill as well.
On our way home Rye was completely wound up and would not stop talking and singing in the car and in the middle of it all the psychiatrist called and said the Depakote levels are still very low so we need to double the dose (we had a blood draw yesterday). “Ya think?” I said. And he laughed as he heard Rye singing at the top of his lungs in the back ground. “Start tonight,” he said.
10-4. Double it we will.
Thank the lord above he now has a friend over to keep him entertained for the night.
I can’t complain though. Minus the time in the car when I began to get a splitting headache from the constant chatter/noise, the day was good overall. Rye said he had a great time. I just hope his friend has a lot of energy tonight because he’s gonna need it!
