Mother’s Day In Asheville

As Don is in New York for the week visiting his family and friends for Mother’s Day, Rye and I decided to head to Asheville, NC with Gam for the weekend.   We knew it was a gamble as Rye is very manic right now but we decided what the heck and went anyway.  And, as it turns out,  I would say overall we had an enjoyable time.  Yes, there were moments when I wondered why on God’s Green Earth did I decide to embark on this journey with a manic companion.  And there was even a moment when I broke down and cried because Rye had worn me down to my inner core of patience.  However, there were definitely moments of great fun.  So I will focus on the good times.

The first day we went to Sliding Rock in Brevard, NC:

This rock water slide is in the Pisgah National Forest.  It was a ton of fun.  Even Gam went down the rock.  In fact, she was the first one down.   Rye has a blast here.  Really, we all did.  It was beautiful and peaceful and yet quite the adrenaline rush.

Then we went to Dolly’s for ice cream on our way out of the forest and had incredible ice cream.  I had black cherry and it was the best black cherry ice cream I have ever had.

Sunday, on Mother’s Day, we went to the Biltmore Estate:

We audio toured the house at break neck speed as Rye was revving at about 100 mph (luckily I had been before without Rye) and then we went and had brunch at the Deerpark Restaurant on the Biltmore grounds:

This restaurant is beautiful.  It is the old calving barn for the estate and the brunch there was incredibly perfect.  The food was great and they had a citrus hibiscus iced tea that was one of the best teas I have ever had.  And it was a great place to eat with Rye as he could get up and mill about as needed and no one noticed as everyone was milling about.

Overall we had a great weekend.  Asheville is all that and a bag of chips.  And today we start Rye on Depakote.  Let’s hope if helps the mania because his mania is beginning to take over our lives.
