Perception

Perception is a weird thing.

GulliversTravels

We went to court this morning for the teacher incident.  The court date was continued for another month so the teacher could get a court appointed attorney.   This is the standard chain of events.  It was interesting though because the teacher was there at the court (she was required to be).  I had never met her before and as it turns out I was a bit surprised when I saw her.  I was not sure what to expect but I was thinking maybe really big, prison warden type of lady by the way Rye had described her.  Once I saw her though I thought she just looked like your average, slightly dowdy teacher.  A bit disappointing, really, if you ask me.

In Rye’s opinion, on the other hand, she looked like a monster.  He thinks she is huge and terrible and he was petrified of her.  It was sad really.   And given what happened to him, he is justified in his thoughts.  So we push on for him.  Don thought she looked mean and big and strong as well.  Rye seemed pleased that Dad confirmed his perception.

Anyway, to be continued…

On the home front, Rye has two friends spending the night tonight so that will be fun for him.

And it’s pizza night.  Everyone loves pizza night.

  1. Its been so long that I’ve visited, I’ve just been catching up on your school situation. How awful!

We’ve had our fair share of clueless, stubborn and even malicious teachers over the years who have blatantly refused to follow something as silly as an IEP. We fought and fought with no results.

Finally, I switched both my kids to brand new charter schools and I have to say I am so happy we did.

Its amazing how much better things are when you have staff and teachers who get and care for your children and don’t just see them as a burden.

I am quite jaded with the public school system (at least here) and won’t send my younger one into that environment.

Hope things go well for you and that you find a good solution for Rye. We have looked at abbreviated days for my son, and if things get too hard, we may go with this in the future too.

I had been wondering what was happening with the case. Did you get any vibes from the teacher, “you have GOT to be kidding” sort of vibes? Chick sounded pretty clueless in your previous posts, just was wondering if she had figured out yet that its “not done” that way in your school?

I didn’t get any vibes from her. The whole situation all the way around is unfortunate.
