The IEP Meeting

1frazzledbird

Well, it’s done for now.  It was very tense and 2.5 hours long and we still didn’t cover everything.  But we did get Rye a shortened day.  And he will no longer have Social Science or Science classes for the rest of the year.  We’ll just focus on reading, writing, and math.  I’m happy with that.  He is really behind and needs to focus on those classes for a while.  I mean, if he can’t read and write well it isn’t easy to learn much else for peet’s sake.

What a long day.

I’m pooped.

I’d be careful of the district’s long term plan and required credit for graduation, this heading into high school….they really screwed my daughter on that with the IEP in place they balked by her junior year that the late starts and removed classes etc were actually held against her graduation and diploma, that did not happen. They (districts)have super-uber-lawyers and in the end they have dotted their I and T’s perfectly, leaving many bewildered parents and destroyed students stunned.

IEP docs are legal documents, they use them to their advantage all the while appearing to be an avantage….business, it’s all about business.

I agree 100%. My goal for this year was to get him a half day so he gets out of the house each day, has some routine, isn’t completely overwhelmed by his day and gives me some time to get my business going. But I was ill last night from that meeting. I was so disgusted it is indescribable. And this is definitely not a viable long term solution on so many levels.
