Just Call Me Rick Jones

Well, the dance on Friday was a huge success.

1dance1

Rye had a great time and the social interaction that ensued afterward went on all weekend.  Phone calls back and forth.  Who danced with who, who is ‘dating’ who etc., etc – which is hilarious because none of these kids actually date at this age  (especially around here because everyone is very spread out and there is no public transportation so parents have to drive them everywhere).  But it’s a term I guess they see as appropriate.  The big news of the evening was one of Rye’s friends had bought a girl a simple ring for Valentine’s Day and then by the end of the dance the girl was already dancing with someone else.  Go figure.  They are 12 years old.  The poor kid then never heard the end of it from all of his friends about buying the ring in the first place.  Poor guy.   But they all had a good rest of the weekend hanging out together.

As for Don and I, we had a nice weekend as well.  When we weren’t driving Rye and his friends around or hanging out with them here we were able to hang out together and were able to go out to eat alone Saturday night.  Money is tight these days and we have not gone out to eat together on a date in a while so that was really nice.   Don is really liking his job right now and we talked about that a lot.  I’m really happy for him.

So, on to the new week.  We’ve implemented a new plan now where every Tuesday night is Don and Rye’s night alone together.  And every Saturday night will be date night for Don and I.   This makes it easier to know for certain that every week we all have one-on-one time with Don (Rye and I already have tons of one-on-one time together) and everyone seems happy with the plan.  Tomorrow night Don is teaching Rye to make chili for dinner and then something for dessert as well (Don is a really good cook).  Rye wants to design a clubhouse for them to make together.  That will take a little more work though so probably best for a long term project.

Oh, and Rye told us yesterday when he’s older he wants to change his name  to Rick Jones.  He decided he likes the sound of that name.  “Rick Jones.  Yea, that’s it.  That sounds good.  It has a good ring to it, don’t you think?  Rrrrrick Jones.”  Oh yea, Rye, that sounds great.  I can’t wait.

Lord, the kid is a nutball.  What can I say?

I’m glad you had a good weekend, Rick.

“Rick Jones” – it has a nice ring to it. Sounds like a take charge kind of guy. I wonder if he heard that name somewhere or he just likes the sound…

Rye definitely seems to be more entertaining than your average kid.

He can be very silly and entertaining. He can also be very raw. He’s pretty much wide open, as we say here in the South.

Obviously this “Rick Jones” incident is a severe delusional break from reality and should be dealt in the most substantive proactive terms LOL….

Though frontal lobotomies at this age have some known adverse inherent risk; the long term benefits of avoiding grandiose idealism and name changes are surely worth the undesirable consequences and side effects. LOL…

It’s sad but I actually wondered if anyone would seriously think that when I typed that post.

He’s a kid. An adolescent kid. Otherwise defined as “giant pain in the ass always teetering on the edge of sanity”, and that’s if the kid has no issues!

All human adolescents try their best to drive their parents around the bend. Its their job.
