Yesterday we had a really nice day.
I am keeping Rye home now. He told me he would rather drive a nail through his head than go back to his current school. That doesn’t sound too pleasant so…I have called about the transfer to the other school but I think after yesterday I’m really leaning to homeschooling for the rest of the year. Rye is mixed on what he wants to do. I think he’d be ok with either. If need be he can start at the other school with his friends in the fall. There’s no hurry. And I wish you could have seen him yesterday. He started the day quite “puffed up” and amped. Talking all big and kind of annoying, frankly. Clearly this is how he’s had to be to get himself to make it to/through school because it really seemed like an automatic response. As the day went on though, his demeanor changed. He became much less guarded and actually seemed to relax at some points.
We did some school work in the morning. Not a lot, but some. And then we decided to go join a gym with pools, waterpark, basketball etc (like a Y). He had been there with a friend and really liked it. So we went and joined. We took the tour and he got a smoothie and we decided that if we homeschool we will do school work every morning until early afternoon and then go to the gym and work out until public school lets out and he can see his friends. He then had a friend come over and I made some really awesome quiches for dinner that they both really liked. And I’m bragging because I did it with no recipe and that was quite a feat for me as I’m no Ina Garten. Anyway, the quiche that everyone, including Don, liked the best was the one with spinach, onion, mushroom and cheese. I was surprised as all of the males here (everyone but me) are big meat eaters and they were gushing on about the spinach, eating their meal of spinach quiche, baked potatoes and salad. It was great.
As I look back on our previous experience homeschooling, it seems like it all went so fast. We did it for over a year for the 4th grade and part of the 5th grade. And it was fun. Rye was really relaxed and he was able to be himself and not be criticized for being who he is.
So, we wait and hear about the transfer. And we see Doc (psychiatrist) tomorrow. It’s been a while since we’ve seen him because of the holidays so that will be good.
Who knows what kind of schooling we’ll be doing for the rest of the year.
At this point I feel ok with either option. And I’m going to buy workbooks later today for homeschooling.
Also, just for the record, we now do children’s benadryl every night and epsom salt baths every other night. I am looking into finding the chlor-tabs but have not had much free time to shop alone yet.
