As of today, we are back from our trip to NY. I’m really tired but we had a great time overall and Rye did really well. Shockingly well, to be honest, because we had an incredibly l.o.n.g “planes, trains & automobiles-esque” travel time to get there due to some bad weather and this was hard on all of us. The only incident of note, outside of having fun seeing family and friends, was a brief moment of Rye hearing dogs barking that weren’t there. This happened 13 hours into our very chaotic travel time trying to get to NY. He was very stressed at the time due to the travel circumstances and luckily the issue was quickly resolved by getting him some fresh air, a brief back rub and having him do some deep breathing to calm down. I also used a technique a neuro___ (dr) in the family taught me and asked him to tell the dog sounds to go away [he knew they weren't real] or we would use Abilify to make them go away [I carry Abilify in my purse at all times now]. Anyway, it worked and the whole thing lasted maybe 3 minutes in total and never happened again and we all had a great trip.
So, so long for now NY

and hello Mayberry

After being in New York the town we live in feels like Mayberry, no doubt about it. It also feels like we are living back in small town America in the 1950’s.
But that’s ok.
We love it.

P.S. I think I might hear dogs barking as well after 13 hours of travel! I am glad this worked out so well. It likely built confidence for Rye and you all as well. Welcome home! P.S.S. I LOVE NYC!
I also had some auditory hallucination during a stressful Thanksgiving trip… I heard a buzzing or humming sound when I was alone.. I put on headphones and it went away, fortunately. Strangely enough the last time that had happened was during a similar trip the previous year. Stress really can make the brain do weird things. Of course, hearing a hallucination can be very anxiety-causing… I’m just so glad that I was able to get it to go away.
Happy New Year to you! Thanks for all of the comments on my blog, too. I plan to write more posts soon

Interesting. I have to admit I did panic a little inside when this happened to him (although I did not show that to him) but then when it went away I figured we were ok. And then it did not come back. I’m trying really hard to not use the meds and it is so helpful to see how others deal with this as well. Thank you.
