Mellow Melodies

So, back at the homestead…

We’ve had a bit of a rough few days here due to me deciding that Abilify was the cause of some problems and thus discontinuing it and going sans meds for a few days. Big mistake. After about 3 days Rye was back to that side of crazy (our goal is to always stay this side of crazy) so we brought the Abilify back and added a mood stabilizer as well and I’m happy to day that he’s earthbound and back to pleasant today. Whew…

As a celebration of me getting out of our way to our child’s progress in stability, we decided to change things up a bit last night. I made a really good but inexpensive dinner of awesome meatloaf courtesy of a Williams Sonoma recipe and we played music throughout the house for the evening instead of watching any TV. We decided to go with the standards and played Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby. Interestingly, it had a very noteworthy effect on Rye. He loved it. He was totally mellow and yet perky all evening and we had a great, lengthy meal as a family. It was so nice. After a while I commented to Rye that he seemed to really respond well to the music and he said that he had noticed that as well and he really liked that genre of music. He said it made his head feel calm and relaxed. Interesting. See if it does the same for you.

I just love her.
